Who has not seen the now viral Dubai Bar on social media – it has taken the chocolate world by storm. When I finally got one to try, I was both really impressed by the originality of the bar and disappointed by how super sugary sweet it was.
In that great Charles Chocolates tradition, we set out to make what we think is the ultimate expression of that really cool idea.
Instead of sweet milk chocolate, we use a rich, lucious, bittersweet chocolate blend that truly compliments the pistachio and crisp shredded kataifi filling. And while we are talking about the filling, every version of the Dubai Bar that I have tried uses a pre-made, very sweet pistachio cream. Given that we were both trying to reduce the sweetness and also stick to our “we make everything from scratch” ethos, our pistachio cream is made fresh here in our kitchens from premium fresh pistachio nuts.
Finally, and because we love to play in the kitchen, we have created two additional flavors that are every bit as good as the original. Try all three – you won’t be disappointed!
Ingredients: Bittersweet chocolate 65% cacao (Cacao beans, cane sugar, cocoa butter, sunflower lecithin, vanilla beans), pistachios, powdered sugar,
kataifi (wheat flour), white chocolate (cocoa butter, cane sugar, full cream milk, lactose, sunflower lecithin, vanilla beans), cocoa butter, salt, colored cocoa
butter.

I deliberated way too long over this. It's worth every penny. The bars are hefty and arrive perfectly in insulated packaging. The only downside is that I've had to bring it to the office to share so I don't binge it all lol.
I've been seeing the Dubai bar all over the place lately and decided I wanted to give it a try. I'm so glad that Dubai Done Better was the first one I tried because it's as good as I imagined it to be! Since getting this bar, I've tried another brand it it was nowhere near as good at Charles Chocolates! The filling is thick, crunchy, and overall excellent texture, and the sweetness was perfection. Yes, it's a bit of a splurge but I'll be back for more!
I liked the idea of a bittersweet chocolate Dubai bar, because that paired with the fillings that I've had before would have been delicious. However, the filling is also less sweet than I've had before. One or the other would have been good--milk chocolate with the less sweet filling or bittersweet chocolate with the usual sweeter filling. Both is a little too bitter for me, and the flavors aren't balancing properly.
However, I know people who love more bitter desserts, so this is probably great for many people! The quality of the ingredients is very good. If you like a strong bitter chocolate flavor and crunchy-soft pistachio but not overly sweet filling, then this bar might be right for you!
Additionally, I know many places have trouble shipping the more fragile chocolate shells that Dubai bars need, without it breaking or melting, but all of mine arrived intact with an icepack and unmelted. Well packaged and shipped!
All of the flavors blend very well together so there is not one over powering the other. I really like the crunch from the Knafeh. It's different from other bars with something crunchy in them.
